Lien Sales
Sometimes, motorcycles will be towed more than once, from the accident scene to a wrecking yard and then from the wrecking yard to an auto shop or storage yard. These towing charges will add up, so if your motorcycle sits at a wrecking yard for any period of time, storage charges will grow day-by-day, week-by-week. After a certain time period, the tow yard will do one of two things. They will put the motorcycle up for a lien sale. A "lien sale" is a sale that is done pursuant to statute in which there is an outstanding amount owed for the towing and storage charges. It is technically an open auction; however, we have learned that they sell these motorcycles to their buddies for pennies and then they charge you for the difference between the sale price and the storage charges. So at this point, bikers become two-time losers. They lose their bike, may not be salvaged and can be repairable, and they still are required to pay for the towing and storage charges. As such, it is important that you may need a competent, aggressive attorney that knows the "ins and outs" of these games tow yards play to prevent further and future harm.
